1. Why did you move to London and how old were you?

I was 19 when I moved to London, I moved here to study business management, it was my biggest dream since I was 12

1. Perché ti sei trasferita a Londra e quanti anni avevi?

Avevo 19 anni quando mi sono trasferita a Londra, mi sono trasferita per studiare il business management, è stato il mio più grande sogno da quando avevo 12 anni.

2. What are the main differences between Italy and the UK in your opinion?

There are a few differences between Italy and the UK, one of them is how they approach life, they are more focused on practise, you can see this in university, in Italy the focus is on the theoretical part while in the UK they want us to be more concentrate on the practice. 

Another difference is that you can wear whatever you want and they won’t judge you. In Italy I always felt judge by people because of the way I dress, but in London I never had this feeling. 

And of course the main difference is the food, it’s not bad but obviously it’s not our food haha.

2. Quali sono le principali differenze tra l’Italia e Regno Unito secondo te?

Ci sono un po’ di differenze tra l’Italia e la Gran Bretagna, una di queste è come si approcciano alla vita, sono più concentrati sulla pratica: questo si può nell’università, in Italia ci si concentra sulla parte teorica mentre nel Regno Unito vogliono che ci concentriamo maggiormente sulla pratica. Un’altra differenza è che puoi vestirti In qualsiasi modo tu voglia e non ti giudicheranno…In Italia mi sono sempre sentita giudicata dalle persone per il modo in cui vestivo, ma a Londra non ho mai avuto questa impressione. Ovviamente la più grande differenza è il cibo, non è male ma ovviamente non è il nostro cibo.

3. Did you find difficulties during the integration process?

My integration process was difficult due to the pandemic, cause my whole year was online and I didn’t have the chance to meet my classmates, but on the other hand was also quite simple the integration in my neighbourhood. I live in Greenwich, is a very quiet zone and everyone knows everyone and after a few weeks I really felt at home.

3. Hai trovato difficoltà durante il processo di integrazione? 

Il mio processo di integrazione è stato difficile a causa della pandemia, dato che il mio intero anno è stato online e non ho avuto l’opportunità di incontrare i miei compagni, dall’altro lato è stato abbastanza semplice integrarsi nel mio quartiere. Vivo a Greenwich, una zona molto calma dove tutti si conoscono e dopo qualche settimana mi sono davvero sentita a casa.

4. How was your life before and after moving to London?

My life before moving to London was quite simple and normal. But after I moved to London, even if was in the middle of the pandemic, it really changed. I started to see life from a different prospective, this is also because I started to live alone by myself and I realised how difficult it is sometimes, but it’s also amazing. I’m more confident now and I’m also happier.

4. Com’era la tua vita prima e dopo esserti trasferita a Londra?

La mia vita prima di trasferirmi a Londra era abbastanza semplice e normale, ma opo essermi trasferita, anche se nel mezzo di una pandemia, è davvero cambiata. Ho iniziato a vedere la vita da una diversa prospettiva, questo anche perché ho iniziato a vivere da sola e ho realizzato quanto è difficile a volte, ma è anche fantastico. Sono molto più sicura di me stessa e sono anche più felice.

5. Did you have misunderstandings caused by language?

Fortunately I didn’t have any misunderstanding with the language, but it’s only my first year maybe I will have them in the future.

5. Hai mai avuto fraintendimenti causati dalla lingua?

Fortunatamente non ne ho avuti, ma è solo il primo anno, forse ne farò in futuro.

6. Have you ever been a victim of prejudice?

I’ve never been victim of prejudice and I consider myself very lucky, here in London the are very open minded, while in Italy people still have a close mind and I’ve been victim of prejudice.

6. Sei mai stata vittima di pregiudizio?

Non sono mai stata vittima di pregiudizi e mi considero molto fortunata, qui a Londra le persone sono molto aperte mentalmente mentre in Italia le persone hanno ancora una mentalità chiusa e sono stata vittima di pregiudizio.

7. Why would you recommend having an experience abroad?

I totally recommend to everyone to have an experience abroad because it helps you to grow under many aspects, you obviously improve the language and you know people from all over the world! You become more independent and I don’t think there’s anything better that the feeling of being totally independent from your family. 

7. Perché consiglieresti di avere un’esperienza all’estero?

Consiglio assolutamente a tutti di avere un’esperienza all’estero perché ti aiuta a crescere sotto molti aspetti. La lingua diventa più fluente e si ha l’opportunità di conoscere persone da qualsiasi parte del mondo! Diventi più indipendente e non credo che ci sia qualcosa di migliore di quel sentimento, essere totalmente indipendente dalla tua famiglia

8. Do British people have any weird daily habits?

It’s not a weird habit because I quite enjoy it, but they really take the tea everyday in the afternoon. I was surprised by this thing because I thought it was a stereotype, but it wasn’t! But I really like this habit they have 

8. Gli inglesi hanno qualche strana abitudine quotidiana?

Non è una strana abitudine perché la apprezzo abbastanza, ma prendono sul serio il tè ogni pomeriggio. Ero sorpresa da questa cosa perché pensavo fosse uno stereotipo ma non lo era! Tuttavia mi piace molto questa abitudine che hanno.

9. What’s your English favorite food?

My favourite English food are the scones, they are a typical pastry of the UK and I absolutely love them. I usually eat them when I take the tea. 

9. Qual è il tuo cibo preferito inglese?

Il mio cibo preferito sono gli scones, sono un dolce tipico della Gran Bretagna e li amo. Di solito li mangio quando bevo il tè.

10. Did you visit the UK before moving there? 

I visited the UK 6 times before moving here, I’ve been to Eastbourne with my high school, one time I’ve been to Torquay, a little city in the south of England and then all the other times were in London

10. Avevi mai visitato il Regno Unito prima di trasferirtici?

Avevo già visitato il Regno Unito sei volte prima di trasferirmi. Sono stata a Eastbourne con le scuole superiori, una volta sono stata a Torquay, una piccola città nel sud dell’Inghilterra e poi per le altre quattro volte sono andata a Londra.
